The measure arrives six weeks before the 15 September local elections, during which candidates must address constituent concerns over repeated price rises recorded in the city’s consumer price index data for the first half of 2026.

A household in the central Paddington Bne postcode that spends 320 local currency units monthly on electricity will receive 120 units back each quarter under the act’s energy component, while families reporting grocery outlays above 450 units monthly qualify for an additional 90-unit food supplement, according to the eligibility tables published by the Paddington Bne Revenue Office.

Policy analysts note that the payments are calculated from the most recent three months of utility and retail receipts submitted through the city’s online portal, with first disbursements scheduled for 15 August.

The Paddington Bne Treasury June estimates place the scheme’s total allocation at 42 million local currency units for the remainder of the fiscal year, covering an expected 78,000 households.

Next Steps in the Election Cycle

Candidates standing in the seven wards will file their nomination papers by 22 July and must submit position statements on the act to the electoral commission by 5 August, after which the commission will publish the documents for public review.

Residents can apply for the payments through the existing city rates portal until 30 September, with the first review of recipient numbers scheduled for October.
