St. Lucia Residents Transform Parks Into Dog-Walking Fitness Hubs
Residents in St Lucia are turning neighborhood green spaces into daily stops for dog walks paired with group exercise sessions and neighbor meetups.
How we reported this

St Lucia residents have increased visits to dog-friendly parks that host regular fitness meetups, with morning turnout at two central locations rising sharply in the past six months.
Wellness programs tied to outdoor activity have gained traction locally after the Ministry of Health expanded its Active Living campaign in January 2026, encouraging residents to combine pet care with physical routines amid ongoing emphasis on community health.
Two parks drawing daily crowds
The Rodney Bay Marina Green on Reduit Beach Road now runs a Tuesday and Thursday Canine Fitness Club session at 6:30 a.m., where owners walk dogs along marked paths before joining bodyweight circuits led by local trainers. Further south, the Vigie Peninsula Park near the Castries waterfront offers a Saturday program through the St Lucia Active Living Network that starts with a 2-kilometer leashed loop and ends with stretch circles on the grass. Both sites require dogs to remain on leads in exercise zones and provide water stations at the entrances.
A 2025 Ministry of Health report recorded a 30 percent jump in outdoor group activity participation across the island compared with the prior year, while entry to these parks remains free and class fees sit at EC$15 per session. The same survey noted that 42 percent of participants cited social interaction as their main reason for returning.
Next steps for new visitors
Anyone interested can check the St Lucia Active Living Network website for updated schedules or arrive early at either park to register on site. Trainers recommend bringing water for dogs and wearing light clothing given the July heat, with the next joint event scheduled for July 12 at the Vigie location.
